Since its inception, open aluminum cans have always had the potential to spill or splatter when in a standard cup holder. These spills and splatters are a distraction to drivers as when the spillage occurs, the driver removes their hands from the steering wheel and take their eyes off the road. A study conducted in 2018 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed that distractions from eating and drinking account for 80% of all car accidents. Of the food or beverage items responsible for distractions, soda is ranked among the top ten. An additional study in 2015 relates that there are over 35,000 fatalities per year as a result of the distractions from eating or drinking.

To decrease the possibility of distractions of taking your eyes off the road, I propose the addition of a clear film that gets added to the under-side of the pull-tabs as they are fed through the conversion press.  When rotated 180 degrees, the tab covers the majority of the opening effectively minimizing, or potentially eliminating, splatters and spillage; not to mention that sticky, dirt-filled cup holder that never seems to get cleaned.  Additionally, the film-covered tab may minimize escaping spray caused by opening a can with a difference in internal pressure from that of the external pressure.
